Trading Shares With A Stockbroker

If you want to trade stocks on the market then you have to use a qualified broker to do this. Stockbrokers can offer a lot more than just trading shares on the market for you. They can track share prices, and provide valuable information on what they believe will be the next batch of movers and shakers in the market. A stockbroker can offer you a wide range of services and they will charge different fees for these services. There are three basic services that a stockbroker can offer which are trades, stock advice and management of portfolios.

It may be that all you want to do is buy and sell shares so a broker will follow your orders on this. The buying and selling service is available to novice and experienced traders alike but the broker will not provide any advice here. This is generally the most inexpensive use of a stockbroker and they will often charge a commission based on the value of the trade. The basic service of trading shares on the market on behalf of investors is the most popular use of a stockbroker.

Offering advice is another popular service. As the advice provided by the stockbroker draws on their expertise of the market and involves them in a lot of work to recommend profitable stocks to you a higher fee will be payable. You will receive a lot of the stockbroker’s time and assistance so you are clear on exactly what stocks are being advised and their profit potential. This time spent will really make a difference and is likely to come at a one off price with commissions payable on any trades.

Discretionary and advisory portfolio management services are available from most brokers. There is a big difference between the two, an advisory portfolio service is where a broker will examine the market and provide several recommendations for you of stocks with potential and then it’s up to you. If you choose a discretionary management option, then your stockbroker will work the portfolio without your input providing you with regular reports on how well the picks are performing.
