The power of SEO and Website Marketing

SEO services history has its earliest roots with Gerald Salton in the 60’s when his team at Harvard and Cornell University created and understood the need to be able to use an information retrieval system, which they named ‘SMART’. ‘ARCHIE’ (shortened from ‘Archive’) followed this in the 1990’s with a much more tailored approach to search. Archie used a query method that combined a script data gatherer with a regular expression matcher for retrieving file names, which enabled it to build up a database of web filenames that it could then match to a subsequent user query.

Some of the search engines that have tried since Archie, e.g. Lycos, Looksmart, Inktomi, Aliweb etc… have either been merged into bigger organisations or have simply disappeared. Google is still and has been, the main player in the search engine arena since its inception in 1998 - however Microsoft are now taking this seriously with the advent of the purchase of Yahoo and their new Bing service.

Google has matured and has refined its search methodology by creating and adapting a unique algorithm for determining the true relevance of a search by a user, which falls within its mantra of making a rapid, automated search as close as possible to a ‘natural’ search. Companies soon saw this as a great opportunity to get their businesses to be available globally and page one of Google was the place to be.

Good SEO = website awareness and good Website Marketing = conversion into sales.

Just having a good looking website is not enough. Today’s searcher is more fickle with time and search relevance being key factors for both the user and the search engine alike. The search engines are now guiding users through the decision process, the website style important but how it is used, how it communicates, how easy it is to purchase services and products, are key factors in the sales process.

So what happens when a user lands on your website?

Well the ultimate goal is for the user to purchase something , what rules do you generally follow when you are out and about and are going to purchase something.
The Retail owner generally:

a) Show their wares

b) Provide places where you can get more information on a product or service

c) Most important of all, they make it easy for you to buy them.

Similarly these same rules apply with a website. Some techniques are exactly the same as a retail outlet like providing impulsive purchases at the checkout.

Don’t make the website a spectacular experience, people may stay and browse and admire but probably won’t buy - Don’t dazzle, coerce.

SEO services is the key to it, without SEO and page one of Google, you simply don’t exist.
